Boba Milk Tea

Milk Tea Boba | Milk and Cardamom

Rhut is a boba-holic and this year we’re trying to decrease the amount of money we spend at restaurants. So this weekend I hit up the local Asian grocery store and picked up some tapioca pearls! I ended up paying $6 for enough boba for about 40 drinks! I shared my homemade boba on Instagram stories and got flooded with people asking for the recipe, so here it is guys!

Milk Tea Boba | Milk and Cardamom

This recipe is not “authentic” by any means by it does taste good and hits the spot when you’re craving boba tea! You can buy a bundle of boba straw and the boba tea on Amazon. After you open the bag, close it with a clip and store it in your refrigerator for up to 2 months.

P.S You can use substitute the black tea with whatever tea you like! I’ve used jasmine tea, lemon iced tea, chai, and cardamom rose tea. Also, be sure to tag me in your posts if you make it @milkandcardamom!

Boba Milk Tea

Description

Make bubble tea at home with boba pearls and black tea. (Makes 2 drinks)

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1/2 cup boba pearls
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 tbsp tea of your choice (I used black tea)
  • milk of your choice

Instructions

  1. Bring 3 cups of water to a boil. Add tapioca pearls and wait until they all float then cover and simmer on low for 5 minutes.

  2. Dissolve brown sugar in 1/4 cup of water. Add 1/2 cup of ice. Strain the cooked tapioca pearls and pour them into the cold sugar mixture. Mix well and set aside while you prepare the tea.

  3. Bring 2 cups of water to a simmer and add your choice of tea. Turn off the heat and cover. Steep for 5 minutes (or however long your tea brand suggests) and strain into a measuring cup for easy assembly.

  4. Split the boba amongst 2 glasses. Pour half the tea into each glass. Add your choice of sweetener (I used the brown sugar mixture I made for the boba). Pour in your choice of milk and enjoy! Add ice if it’s not cold enough!
